Top 10 Home Safety Tips From Secure Zone’s NJ Security Systems Expert

Home security should be top on the list of priorities, even if you live in a gated housing society or a condominium with reliable security personnel. Often, crime takes more dangerous forms than we assume it to. That’s why installing a powerful security system for the security of your home and office is key. Here is some valuable home security tips from Secure Zone’s security system expert.

1. Secure all doors and windows of your garage! Upgrading any doors or windows that are more than 10 or 15 years old is also a good idea, as the windows and doors of your garage should be of high quality so that they cannot be easily broken.

2. Keep storage sheds and detached garages locked! Though storage sheds don’t always contain things of extreme value, thieves can easily grab some useful tools like a ladder, ax or other item for quicker and easier entry into your home.

3. Lock all the doors and windows! Whether home or not it is best to keep all windows and doors locked, this way you don’t have to remember to lock them when you are leaving and you have the added security of knowing a thief may be deterred or at least slowed down by the locks being engaged properly.

4. Be careful not to encourage the burglars!  If possible, avoid putting any expensive or flashy and attention grabbing items near your windows.  Not something we commonly consider, this simple mistake could be tempting to people passing by and potential burglars.

5. Install outdoor lights with sensors!  Installing outdoor lighting with magnetic and motion sensors can allow you to detect the movement of any unwanted guests immediately.  In addition, illuminating an area in this manner can deter potential burglars as dark, hidden spaces are typically their preference.

6. Cancel all deliveries if you are out of town! Thieves are clever and very much encouraged when they can find a home that appears to have no one in it for a period of time.  Mailing packages and deliveries or newspapers piling up outside your door can be all the tip a thief needs.  In addition, using automatic lighting that turns on and off alternatively can make it look like your home is not vacant if you are going to be away for a period of time.

7. Replace older locks with new ones whenever you change your residence!  If you move to a new home or apartment, change the locks or make sure you are provided with new locks before you move in eliminating the easy entry of unwanted guests.

8. Avoid putting your name or address on your keys or key chain!  While it may seem harmless enough putting your identity on your keys can be a big mistake, making you and your home an easy target should your keys find their way into the wrong hands once lost.

9. Install a peephole at your front door! Peepholes are useful tools for home security as they allow you to see who is at the other side of the door prior to your opening it.  This can allow you to avoid unwanted visitor and/or potentially dangerous situations.

10. Don’t leave the keys outside your home or apartment!  Noting the intelligence of many thieves once more, most hiding places for keys are not actually that well hidden.  In addition, it is impossible to detect who is watching every time you use or hide that key.  Using biometric door locks can easily help you avoid this problem.
